Russia and Kazakhstan Pledge to Renew Strategic Partnership amid Growing Dissatisfaction with Customs Union

Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev paid an official visit to Moscow to celebrate 20 years of good-neighborly relations with its northern neighbor. Russia’s leader, Vladimir Putin, had recently visited Kazakhstan earlier in mid-September. The majority of issues discussed during the bilateral meetings in the presence of sectoral ministers largely remained out of the spotlight, as representatives of the media were only allowed to film the protocol part of Nazarbayev’s visit. However, both presidents subsequently made a number of important declarations.

Belarus needs WTO membership faster

Belarus should step up the accession to the World Trade Organization, BelTA learned from Mr Alexander Luchenok, Doctor of Economy, department head of the Economy Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Alexander Luchenok took part in the international scientific and practical conference Social and Economic Development of Organizations and Regions in Belarus: Sustainability, Development, Innovations.

U.S. appreciates Azerbaijan’s contribution to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons

The U.S. very much appreciates Azerbaijan's contribution to support the global community in its efforts to ensure that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons, Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Adam Sterling said during his speech at the International Conference "Role of Azerbaijan-U.S. cooperation on ensuring peace and security in the region" in Baku on Friday.

Russia criticises EU Iran sanctions, urges talks

Russia criticised the European Union on Wednesday for imposing new sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme and called for a fresh round of talks between world powers and Tehran as soon as possible.

Kazakhstan announces an agreement with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey on transit via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars

Kazakhstan has announced the signing of a new regional agreement on the transit of goods. Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov has stated that Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Turkey are preparing an agreement on the transit of goods by rail via the being built route of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.
